Split fountain

I can't wait to try this technique, I haven't found a real tutorial yet, but it looks pretty straightforward although I bet it's quite tricky to get it right. I found these images on the three steps ahead blog. I also found some other beautiful applications of this technique but I can't remember the link! Oh well...

  1. Thanks for featuring our split-fountain photos! You'd be surprised... it's not that tricky. That's why we didn't feature a tutorial on the three steps ahead blog. All it really comes down to is choosing two colors, placing a dab of one on one side of the screen, and a dab of the other on the other side. As you pull, the inks start to mix. It's important to keep the squeegee more or less locked in place horizontally, but there will inevitably be variation in your prints as you go... the gradient will become more gradual. And when it gets so gradual as to be homogeneous, wash the screen and start a new batch! Best of luck with it!
